We interviewed Scott, the latest person to install RapidRidge, to get his opinions on this innovative method of installing roof ridges. In summary Scott mentions “RapidRidge is a straightforward system to use, that benefits the home owner, installer, and the environment. I’d definitely recommend RapidRIdge as a method to install a ridge over mortar and pointing”
Discovery
How did you come across RapidRidge?
I’ve always had an interest in construction, and decided a few years ago to get my building licence so that I could work on my own home. Just recently the ridge mortar started to fail, and I needed to conduct maintenance work on it. At the time I was watching a renovations show based in Europe, and they were discussing dry fixing the ridge tiles and passive ventilation, and after a quick Google search and a phone call, I was on the way to taking delivery of RapidRidge.
What appealed to you when you first learnt about the system, and why did you opt for RapidRidge over other ventilation systems?
I take a keen interest in the developments and technologies that emanate from there Europe as it often leads the way in construction. I have looked at whirly birds etc. but when you look at the actual data and performance that sits behind them, they aren’t that efficient. RapidRidge was also a good way to ensure I have a maintenance free ridge in the future, as well as avoiding any penetrations/additions that are unsightly on the roof.
Technical
How did you find the install of RapidRidge?
As someone who has no background in roofing, and as a new concept in roofing in Australia, it took a little bit of time to understand how the components worked together and to get the height of the batten holder set right, but ultimately it was very straightforward once I got going with the installation.
If you are a professional roofer and have been working with ridges for many years, the system itself is straight forward, light and easy to install, and is much cleaner than using mortar and pointing.
Ongoing Use
Do you hope to use RapidRidge again in the future?
I am looking at setting up my own construction firm having gone through this experience, and I would be keen to use RapidRidge for maintenance and new build solutions in the future.
How do you think you will benefit from using RapidRidge in the future?
When looking at current trends in Australia, such as trying to reduce our reliance on energy and the costs associated with energy consumption, I see RapidRidge as a great solution. It adds minimal cost and change to the design and build of the dwelling, but gives ongoing passive ventilation, which can ultimately lead to a reduction in energy costs.
Further to this, where no ongoing maintenance is required on the mortar and pointing of the ridge, it reduces ongoing costs relating to that too.
