What is Fastfix Wet Shield?
Fastfix Wet Shield is a resin-based, fibre re-enforced roof repair compound designed to protect your home by helping you tackle emergency leaks. It is effective on all common roofing surfaces, creating an instant waterproof seal, even when applied in wet weather conditions and on wet surfaces. In addition, there is no risk of wash-off with Fastfix Wet Shield, so emergency leaks can be tackled immediately without waiting for the rain to stop or drying surfaces.
Fastfix Wet Shield is brush applied, drying to a smooth, seamless, flexible membrane that resists algae and fungal growth. Because of the high level of fibre reinforcement, FastFix Wet Shield bridges small cracks with one coat. This gives instant and total water protection, even in areas subject to ponding. Furthermore, it doesn’t require a primer on sound, non-porous surfaces.

Uses Of Fastfix Wet Shield
Fastfix wet shield is solvent-based and durable with excellent adhesion, making it a multifunctional and versatile roofing solution. One coat uses between 1kg and 2kg per square metre depending on the substrate. If stored correctly in an unopened container, Fastfix wet shield has a shelf life of two years.
As well as helping you tackle emergency leaks into your home in wet weather conditions, Fastfix West Shield has other functions. You can use it for general sealing, roof maintenance, repair and waterproofing of most common roof materials.
Because Fastfix Wet Shield requires no primer for most roof surfaces, its one-coat brush application is quick and simple no matter the surface you’re working with. Use white spirit or methylated spirit to clean areas where Fasfix Wet Shield is applied.
Are There Instances Where I Shouldn’t Use Fastfix Wet Shield?
Though Fastfix Wet Shield is hugely versatile, there are some situations where its use isn’t appropriate. Read on for where not to use Fastfix Wet Shield:
- Internal applications – designed for external applications only (e.g. roofing)
- Inner walls of fish tanks, ponds and swimming pools
- Places where it will be in contact with potable water, i.e. kitchen/bathroom sinks, drinking fountains, toilets
- As a full roofing membrane on its own – it is designed for emergency, temporary repairs (24 months)
- On the outside of tanks – not suitable for negative pressure application
- On timber/PVC/Plastisol/boats/walkways
- On existing membranes made of silicone/polyurethane
How Does Fastfix Wet Shield Work?
Fastfix Wet Shield comprises lightfast acrylic polymers designed to withstand UV for longer periods than traditional bitumen coatings, making it a durable waterproofing solution. Its reinforced fibres interlace to bridge small cracks and gaps in surfaces where water may otherwise seep through, whether in damaged gutters or between tiles and tile flashings.
Fastfix Wet Shield is solvent-based and made with hydrocarbons so that it won’t dry and crack like bitumen-based solutions. It is much easier to apply with a brush than other waterproofing solutions. Fastfix Wet Shield is flammable and contains VOCs solvent-based products that are resistant to rainwater.
After Application
Once you have brush-applied Fastfix Wet Shield, allow 6-7 days of drying time. The length of time it takes to dry depends on how thick the layer is, the temperature and the weather.
Fastfix Wet Shield might feel soft for longer than the initial 6-7 day period depending on the weather conditions – the hotter the weather, the softer it is. However, this weather sensitivity doesn’t damage the waterproofing qualities of Fastfix Wet Shield.
