Celebrating 20 Years of Wakaflex logo

TRUSTED ON AUSSIE HOMES SINCE 2001

Trusted by Aussie tradies, Wakaflex is the professional’s choice for flashing abutments, step flashings, chimneys, Dutch gables, and other rising structures.

Made from Polyisobutylene (PIB) with an integrated aluminium mesh, Wakaflex offers superior flexibility, memory, and strength. It forms a chemical bond to itself when overlapped, creating a single, continuous waterproof seal that outperforms traditional lead flashing.

With three-dimensional stretch (up to 50% in length and 15% in width), it conforms smoothly to any roofing profile — including tiles, metal and slate — and maintains a seamless, dressed-down finish. The dual butyl strips on either edge ensure a fast, secure bond to the surface, while the triple-layer HDPE backing protects during installation.

Wakaflex is 100% lead-free, safe for drinking water, and compliant with AS/NZS 4020.

Best For:

  • New builds and retrofits

  • Abutments and wall junctions

  • Chimneys, dormers, Dutch gables

  • Lead replacement in all standard flashing applications

Quick Install Guide

Wakaflex is installed much like traditional lead flashing, but easier and safer to handle. Follow these steps for a fast, reliable seal:

  1. Prepare the surface – Ensure the roof area is clean, dry and free of dust or debris.
  2. Cut to length – Measure and cut Wakaflex to the required size. Always use full 5 m lengths where possible.
  3. Remove backing – Peel away the protective film from the butyl strips along each edge.
  4. Dress to profile – Press Wakaflex firmly into the roof contours by hand. It stretches up to 50% lengthwise and 15% widthwise.
  5. Seal the edges – Press the butyl strips down tight to form a watertight bond. Overlap sheets by at least 50 mm – overlaps self-bond.

Wakaflex FAQs

Where can I buy Wakaflex?

Please head to our Where To Buy section to find a stockist near you.

Is Wakaflex cheaper than lead flashing?

Wakaflex is usually cheaper by around twenty percent on a per lineal metre basis. All our flashings come in five metre rolls. Lead usually comes in three metre rolls.

Can you use Wakaflex to fix existing faulty or leaking lead flashing?

Yes. Lift the existing lead and install Wakaflex directly underneath in full five metre lengths, then dress the lead over Wakaflex as an over flashing. If removing the lead entirely, chase Wakaflex into brickwork or go underneath the fascia.

Where can Wakaflex be installed?

Use Wakaflex anywhere lead flashing is used. Typical areas include abutments, Dutch gables, step flashings, chimneys and skylights. Suitable for tile, Colorbond metal, polycarbonate, copper and zinc. Not for flat roofs or as a mid sheet patch. Minimum roof pitch is twelve degrees.

How do I install Wakaflex?

Install similar to lead for abutments, gables and pitched roofs. On brick second storeys use step flashings, chase into brickwork or mechanically over flash. Refer to the installation guide for diagrams.
