Did you know you can seal your roof to a high standard using an inexpensive material? Applying new roof flashing to your roof can rejuvenate your home, sealing the roof tiles and preventing rain from leaking through.
Acryflash is a leading coated lead flashing material that will transform your roof quickly and easily.
Read on to discover exactly what is Acryflash, how it is used, and what benefits it offers you.
What Is Acryflash?
Acryflash is a cost effective roof flashing material that consists of a primer coating. It is a painted lead sheet that promises to add waterproof protection to your home. Acryflash is an Australian product, having stormed the Australian market over the last two decades.
When you unwrap Acryflash, you will see that this roof flashing material is thermo-baked acrylic with a primer coating over the lead flashing.
One side of Acryflash is coloured charcoal grey whilst the opposite side is a mid-grey colour. However, once fully installed, you can paint Acryflash to match the colour of your roof or surrounding material. You can use conventional acrylic house paint to paint over the exposed flashing.
Simply fit the flashing to the edges of your roof, whether you have a metal roof or a tile roof. It is important to note that when you install Acryflash, you must meet Australian AS2904 standards. Each run must be shorter than a length of 1.5 metres.
How Do You Install Roof Flashing?
Any type of lead flashing must be fitted between the joints of the roof, sealing the roof and making it weathertight.
As well as being a durable material, it is also flexible. You can manipulate the lead flashing to fit snugly into any corner and crevice. However, lead flashing is non-corrosive and so will not rust.
Lead flashing must be used according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Being made from lead, you must be careful using the lead flashing. Lead can be harmful to your skin and eyes and is dangerous to inhale.
Follow these simple steps to install flashing on your roof.
1. Cut the Flashing
You will need to measure the lead flashing and cut the material sharply. You should be able to score the flashing with a utility knife, just make sure your measurements are correct!
2. Rake the Mortar
If the flashing has not been installed previously, you will need to rake the mortar from the brickwork.
You will need an appropriate electric tool to do this. If you are replacing the lead flashing with flashing, then you will still need to check that the gaps in the brickwork are clear. The need for roofs undergoing extensive modification is usual when fitting standard flashing.
3. Fit the Flashing
Fit the flashing to the roof so that there are no gaps or folds. You may need to use specific lead dressing tools to bend the lead exactly. Make sure there is an overlap fitting into the gap in the brickwork
4. Fix the Flashing
Ledge straps will need to be fitted onto the nails that are securing the roof tiles. Straps are used to support the flashing and protect against wind uplift. You should then take pieces of rolled lead and securely fit them into the brickwork gap. Make sure they are flush with the wall. Tap down the lead flashing without making any indentations.
5. Apply Mortar
You now need to make a mortar mix and apply it to the gap in the brickwork, making sure you fill the gap completely. Smooth away excess and allow to dry, and then apply a layer of patination oil.
What Are the Benefits of Acryflash?
Acryflash is quick and easy to use and does not require the extensive process used in traditional roof flashing installation. There is no need to rake the mortar from the brickwork as Acryflash is self-adhesive and attaches itself effectively to the shape of the surface.
To install Acryflash, you need to cut the material to size. Place the Acryflash sheet to the area desired and then start to unpeel the backing underneath. Do this slowly and fit small sections fully to the roof as you go along.
Once the entire backing is removed, smooth the Acryflash to the roof and all of the joins. When you are happy, peel the top cover away from the Acryflash and your lead flashing is complete!
You are free to paint the Acryflash to match the colour of your roof and surrounding area. Finding a finish coating to match your home is an extremely significant benefit of Acryflash!

Such quick installation makes Acryflash a superior product by far. It is also tough and durable and will offer clear protection for your home. Furthermore, you will also save on material costs as all you need is Acryflash!
What Size Acryflash Rolls Are Available?
Acryflash adhesive roof flashing is available in lengths of 3m, 6m, and 9m. You can purchase a 1.32mm thickness or a 1.76mm thickness. Furthermore, the width of Acryflash ranges from 150mm through to 1220mm. Typically, many people purchase Acryflash in a 300mm x 3m roll.
